A Complete Guide to the Use and Storage of Ceramic Fiber Blankets

Effectively Extend Lifespan and Ensure Thermal Insulation Performance

Ceramic fiber blankets, as a high-quality refractory and thermal insulation material, are widely used in various industrial kilns, high-temperature pipelines, and thermal equipment due to their advantages such as high temperature resistance, thermal shock resistance, good chemical stability, and long service life. However, improper use and storage can seriously damage their performance.

PART 01 Precautions for Use

1、Strict Water and Moisture Prevention: Keep Dry. (Except for waterproof products) Water is the "enemy" of ceramic fiber blankets. Before installation, be sure to check whether the blanket has been rained on or damp. If there are water stains, discard it immediately. Reason: After being soaked in water, the fiber structure will be damaged, hardening and compacting. Even if dried, its thermal conductivity will permanently increase, and the insulation effect cannot be restored. Recommendation: For users with large-volume applications such as tunnel kilns and heat treatment furnaces, a dry storage area must be planned before the material arrives on site, and a rain and moisture prevention plan must be developed to avoid economic losses.ii

2、Thorough Quality Inspection Before Construction: Before laying, each roll of blanket should be visually inspected. Any damage or tearing caused during transportation should be repaired or trimmed promptly. Purpose: To minimize losses, ensure the sealing and uniformity of the insulation lining, and prevent potential hazards from being introduced into the equipment.

3、 Precise Temperature Control and Clear Temperature Classification: Common temperature classes are: 1050℃ (standard type), 1260℃ (high alumina type), 1400℃ (zirconia-containing type), 1430℃ (1500 functional type), and 1600℃ (multi-diameter alumina fiber needle-punched blanket). Understand the "limit temperature": This temperature is the absolute upper limit that the blanket can withstand for a short period, not the recommended long-term operating temperature. Prolonged operation at the limit or above this temperature will accelerate fiber pulverization and drastically reduce its lifespan. Operating Guidelines: Select a model with a safety margin (it is recommended that the long-term operating temperature be 100-150℃ lower than the limit temperature) based on the actual operating temperature, and ensure the accuracy of the temperature control system.

PART 02 Storage Precautions: Scientific Management, Preparedness is Key

1、Prioritize Waterproofing: Waterproofing is crucial during storage; moisture renders the material unusable. Specific measures are as follows: Environmental Requirements: Must be stored in a dry, well-ventilated, leak-proof indoor warehouse. Open-air storage is strictly prohibited. Off-the-ground Storage: All materials must be placed on wooden or plastic pallets, at least 20 cm off the ground, to prevent moisture and avoid packaging damage. Seasonal Protection: During the rainy season, indoor storage should also be covered with waterproof canvas, and the roof and walls should be regularly checked for potential water seepage. Special Solutions: For high humidity or splash-prone environments, Aladdin ceramic fiber water-repellent blankets are recommended. While maintaining excellent performance, they boast a water repellency rate of up to 99%, providing double protection for your investment.

2、Pay Attention to Storage Time and Packaging: Maintain Original Packaging: Unopened blankets that will not be used for a long time should remain sealed in their original factory packaging. Do not open them prematurely. First-In, First-Out (FIFO) Principle: Establish a material ledger and follow the "first-in, first-out" principle to avoid material accumulation and aging. Inspection after long-term storage: For materials stored for an extended period (e.g., more than one year), it is recommended to take samples for testing or conduct a small-scale trial before use to confirm that their softness, strength, and insulation performance have not significantly decreased before installation.

Following the above usage and storage guidelines will not only effectively extend the service life of ceramic fiber blankets but also ensure that they provide stable and efficient fire-resistant and heat-insulating performance throughout their entire lifespan. Meticulous management, starting from every detail, is key to ensuring production safety and economic benefits.
