How to Repair Shrinkage or Falling-off of Ceramic Fiber Lining

16

Ceramic Fiber Is Widely Adopted in Most Industrial Furnaces As A Lightweight Refractory And Thermal Insulation Material Featuring Easy Installation And Convenient Repair. Today, Aladdin Will Introduce The Repair Methods For Ceramic Fiber Furnace Lining.

PART.01

Repair Of Shrinkage Joints

Once the gap width of ceramic fiber furnace lining exceeds 5mm, immediate repair shall be conducted at a 1:1 filling ratio. Use ceramic fiber blanket of the same grade for gap filling. Push the blanket deep into the gap as far as it can be tightly packed. Ensure thorough and compaction filling inside the whole gap instead of only stuffing the surface; otherwise, the lining will fall off again soon after operation.

Repair of Ceramic Fiber Module Falling Off

1. Repair for Standard Ceramic Fiber Module Falling Off

When standard ceramic fiber modules are damaged and fall off, replace them with new ceramic fiber modules of the same size. Re-weld the anchor bolts at the original mounting positions, lay ceramic fiber blanket as backing lining, then install the new ceramic fiber modules.

Compress ceramic fiber blankets between two rows of modules in the non-folding compression direction to compensate for shrinkage. Any large gaps between the replaced module area and the surrounding intact modules shall be filled with ceramic fiber blanket.

2. Repair of Special-shaped Ceramic Fiber Module Falling Off

When special-shaped ceramic fiber modules (such as corner modules, arc modules, etc.) are damaged and fall off, repair shall be carried out by the layered laying method of ceramic fiber blankets.
Weld elongated anchor studs first, then lay ceramic fiber blankets layer by layer till the thickness is consistent with the original furnace lining, and finally fix the surface firmly.
The layered laying method of ceramic fiber blankets is adopted for two reasons. On the one hand, there are usually no spare special-shaped modules of the corresponding specification once the original ones are damaged and detached. On the other hand, the remaining undetached special-shaped modules have suffered shrinkage and loss of elasticity after long-term high-temperature operation. If repaired with new special-shaped modules of the original structure, the joint between old and new modules cannot be compacted sufficiently, leaving potential failure risks.
Gaps will form due to rapid shrinkage under high-temperature operation, which further causes damage and falling-off of the furnace lining. By adopting the layered blanket structure, the ceramic fiber blanket can be cut larger than the damaged area. This allows reserved compression allowance at the joint with the retained special-shaped modules for tight layered laying, which perfectly solves the above problems.
